Notes and drawings by Disney animator Glen Keane
These are so amazing and solid.
Solid? I think that his advice is misplaced. These drawings are very inspiring and bursting with life. Glen Keane is a master of fluidity and gesture. That is why I find it kind of humorous that he uses sparse disjointed drawings to demonstrate ‘solidity' here, and these wonderfully spontaneous overlapping lines flowing in slightly different directions around an underlying form to demonstrate 'decisiveness’. To me these drawings have the exact opposite qualities as the ones he intended to demonstrate! It is only when Glen Keane’s work is cleaned up that it becomes solid and decisive, and as a result much of the life and energy of it is lost.
Original oil painting by Dave Cooper, 1996.
